So take a look at the first photo and then the second. How much of a difference do you see? The first is the "correct exposure" for the view from the middle of my living room into the dining room. The second is an HDR composite photo of about seven or eight (sorry, can't recall) frames. Whaddya think? I don't think this is the best situation for it, but is the difference noticeable?
I'll experiment some more ...

also, you shouldn't drink so many soft-drinks. it's bad for your teeth :-P
you need a broader range of exposures, the black in the hdr image would be exposed as if it were fully lit, so you'd need to expose for that.
I'm still working on it myself, but just some tips from what i've found from playing around.
